How do G-series BSPP and tapered BSPT threads differ?

G-series BSPP threads are parallel and normally seal against a washer, O-ring, or designed seat. For BSPT terminology, R identifies a tapered external thread, while Rc identifies a tapered internal thread; Rp identifies a parallel internal thread intended to mate with an R external thread.

Why do BSP gas threads use a 55-degree angle?

BSP profiles use the Whitworth 55-degree form with rounded crests and roots. NPT uses a 60-degree form, so the two systems are not interchangeable even when nominal sizes appear similar.

Can a gas thread tap be used for a metric bolt hole?

No. Pipe-thread sizes are nominal and use different pitches, diameters, flank forms, and often taper. Select a metric machine tap for a metric fastener thread.
